The new season is off to a great start. pH don’t ignore it!

 

Last weekend we opened up our Koi ponds for the new season. 

Considering the cold snap it was a pleasant surprise to see so many customers out enjoying themselves viewing the display of Koi. 

This year we have one of the best displays we have ever!



I know we have covered this topic many times, but I wanted to mention it again as this week we have had two customers in the shop who have been loosing their fish.

Both customers  reported similar symptoms. Fish lying on the bottom, rolling onto their sides then dying during the night. When they examined the Koi there were no visible marks on the fish and they were unsure what could have caused the problem.

The sad thing is this is very easily avoidable. 

When tested the water at the store the pH was extremely low and this is the reason they have lost fish.

It is very important to regularly check the pH of your pond and carry out small partial water changes.

You can stabilize the pH by dosing with Kh buffer powder and placing oyster shells in the pond or filter.

  

I checked the weather report for Saturday and its looking good for Nottingham.

“Another fine but cold start with crisp sunshine. Cloud bubbling up through the day, with a few showers possible, although less frequent and generally lighter than on Friday. Winds easing. Maximum temperature 11 °C.”

So I am expecting us to be busy at the shop with Koi sales.
